Channeling a Sunday afternoon in the
Diego Rivera's Mural Museum 40 years after the earthquake
This artwork consists of several energy channelings that Erika Mayoral executed from a state of deep meditation, each of them documented on audio, three of which are presented at Museum Diego Rivera's Mural as part of the temporary exhibition "Tectonics of Memory 1985 - 2025" which commemorates the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City. The artwork project includes that channelings which are based on an intuitive connection, using suggestive mental images. You can listen those channelings in the following videos.

Mural's Energy Essence (2025)
Erika Mayoral
Audio piece. Audio in Spanish, subtitles in English.
Sound recording that attests the energetic channeling when connecting with Diego Rivera's mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central (1947). Lending her voice, Mayoral establishes herself as a channel of communication for the energetic essence of the fresco to express itself. The importance of the colour yellow to allude to the energy of the author's inner child is highlighted, as well as the link between the figure of “La Catrina” with the maternal grandmother of ‘Diego’s child’. Throughout the narration, moments can also be heard that reveal distinctive aspects that shape the energetic identity of Rivera's work.
Of course, Mayoral's sound work opens up the possibility of analyzing the iconic mural from perspectives that differ from traditional interpretations of art history, not to cancel or omit the previous readings regarding the cultural importance of the fresco, but to add layers of meaning that enrich its significance and formation as an entity with its own identity, voice and energy.
Diego Rivera's Mural Museum. Energy Mission (2025)
Erika Mayoral
Audio piece. Audio in Spanish, subtitles in English.
Sound piece documenting the energetic channeling when connecting with the subtle essence of the Diego Rivera Mural Museum (INBAL). In this session, distinctive aspects that shape the Museum's energetic mission were revealed to the artist. It establishes a comparison between the energetic reality of Solidarity’s Square and its sculpture commemorating the 1985 earthquake, with Diego Rivera's mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central (1947). Mayoral receives information about the role of the iconic fresco, which consists of healing the deep historical wound caused by the 1985 earthquake through its colours, especially yellow and some greenish tones, flooding with luminous energies of beauty, joy and innocence from Diego Rivera's inner child not only the museum grounds, but the entire area occupied by the Hotel Regis before.
This reinforces the artistic and cultural importance of the mural housed in the museum, as the artist's channeling reveals the healing role it plays as a conscious energetic entity, transcending traditional methods and conceptions of art history, which are limited to evaluating the technical/conceptual contributions of an artist and their work, as well as the relevance of the museum space per se.
Hotel Regis and the earthquake, a message from Gaia (2025)
Erika Mayoral
Sound piece 14:35 min. Audio in Spanish, subtitles in English.
Audio recording that evidence the energetic channeling based on a photograph by Enrique Metinides of the Hotel Regis, which collapsed on 19th September 1985. Mayoral perceives the collective energy of death of those who died in the building, but going beyond the tragic meaning of the event, observing it as a collective plan of souls. During the channeling exercise, the artist receives a message from Gaia emphasizing that the earthquake was the only way for Mexican society to become fully aware of where we are located: the geological nature of this specific geographical point, which connects Mexico to the complete planet’s ring of fire.
The connection that Mayoral achieves, offers a new way of understanding that episode, as it transforms our view of an event that allowed the rise of collective consciousness among those of us who live in Mexico City. Furthermore, the communication that the artist receives raises the alternative of conceiving all those who perished in the collapsed buildings as beings fulfilling their soul plans, which completely challenges preconceived and widely accepted ideas about death.

Based on the content of the energetic channelings that make up the project "Channeling…," included in this exhibition, the artist created a performance that took the form of a lecture. In it, Mayoral conceived channeling exercises as valid research methods and sources for examining and analyzing history, art, and our reality, thus elucidating the energetic framework woven by historical events and the need to safeguard Diego Rivera's mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central (1947).
The lecture format allowed the artist to propose research methods that are alternative to the logical, technological, and scientific rationale prevalent in various fields of knowledge, exploring new ways of connecting with and understanding the world. In this way, Mayoral comprehend performance as a process of artistic communication: a means of dialogue between the energetic dimension and the audience.
