BIOGRAPHY
Erika Mayoral (1975, Puebla - Mexico)
Artist, researcher and independent teacher.
Graduated with honors from the Master's Degree in Visual Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Design of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, as part of the same she was a scholarship recipient of the UNAM Postgraduate Studies (PBEP) from 2010 to 2012 and in that year she received an invitation to do a research residency at the University at Buffalo (USA) also obtaining the scholarship of the UNAM International Mobility Program for Students Abroad (PROMIE).
Since 2001, her work has been presented at various festivals, exhibitions, and group shows, such as “Centennial Surrealism: Art and Psyche (From a book by Teresa del Conde)” (2024) at the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Bicentenario - State of Mexico; within the LATITUDES 2024 International Performance Art Festival at the Altillo Beni City Museum in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia; “The Gold Tooth” (2023) at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Vienna, Austria; at the 15th Live and Delayed Action Meeting AVD in partnership with the Dislocated International Videoperformance Exhibition “Memory, Mourning, and Resilience” (2023) at the Center for Memory, Peace, and Reconciliation in Bogotá, Colombia; the same exhibition was also shown at HH Art Spaces Aldona, India, and at El Cuadro Gris & El Bastión in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Within the exhibition "Bodies between objects and spaces" (2023) at the Museum of Art of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia; "Letters to Jonas. Homage to Jonas Mekas" (2021) at the Liliput Gallery, Puebla – Mexico; in the 10th Meeting of Performance. Photoperformances and Videoperformances (2020) at Umbral Espacio de Arte in Buenos Aires – Argentina; within the Videoperformance Cycle "Confinement. Phase 3" organized by PerfoRedMx in Mexico City; "Radical Mexicanisms" (2019) at the La Neomudéjar Museum in Madrid – Spain; "Not everything is fragility" (2017) both at Movediça _ Mostra de Performance Arte en Galpao Mungunzá and at Sechiisland's Micro Gallery in 2016 both in Sau Paulo – Brazil; at the EsperArte Walläda La Omeya Video Art Exhibition (2016) in Córdoba – Spain; at the Second International Performance Festival CORPÓREA 2016, Zacatecas - Mexico and more.
She has given performance art workshops, theoretical seminars on contemporary art, and academic presentations such as those given at the University of Palermo: “Ex Teresa Arte Actual in communion with Bill Viola” (2024), “Interpretations and symbolic representations that go from design to sculpture in the work of Yvonne Domenge” (2023), “Dialogical considerations of museum contents converted into virtual formats through design” (2021); classes “Training on the Development of Creativity in the Arts in Teacher Training Institutions” and “Visual Arts” for the comprehensive training program of the Tabasco State Department of Education in 2021; lecture “From performance to video art and vice versa” at the Corpórea Festival 2019; special guest to give the class “Performance Art” at the Contemporary Art Laboratory at the Autonomous University of Mexico City in 2017; "Corpo-Energetic Poetics in situ" discussion as part of the activities of the Second International Performance Festival CORPÓREA 2016 in Zacatecas - Mexico; workshop "Appropriationism and post-production in the art of the 20th and early 21st centuries" in 2013 for the virtual program of the Multinational Workshop in Mexico City, among others.
